Abstract
Objective: To compare the outcome of Pedicled abdominal versus groin flap for coverage of soft tissue defect of dorsum of hand
Study Design: Randomized Controlled trial.
Study place and duration: Department of Plastic Surgery, PIMS Hospital, Islamabad from Feb 2024 to July 2024
Methodology: After approval of ethical board, 112 patients were included and were divided randomly in two equal groups. In group A, patients underwent surgery using pedicled abdominal flap. In group B, patients underwent surgery using groin flap. During follow-up, patients were evaluated for infection and successful graft were noted. All this information was collected on proforma and analysed in SPSS v.25.
Results: In this trial, the mean age of patients was 47.79 ± 17.10 years in pedicled abdominal flap and 46.66 ± 17.91 years in groin flap group. In pedicled abdominal flap group, Successful graft uptake was noted in 53 (94.6%) patients. In groin flap group, Successful graft uptake was noted in 40 (71.4%) patients (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Pedicled abdominal flap is more successful and effective than groin flap for coverage of soft tissue defect of dorsum of hand.
