Abstract

Esthetic outcomes and in situations involving adult patients, perception of the smile is one of the most important predictors of psychosocial welfare is one of the areas of focus during the success of modern orthodontic therapy. The occurrence of open gingival embrasure or black triangles is among the most prevalent esthetic complications in the orthodontic treatment or post-orthodontic care. Since clear aligner therapy is still gaining popularity in the global market, its biomechanical impact on interdental contacts and papillary fill has been a cause of concern. The present retrospective cohort study was designed to examine the clinical effectiveness of the clear aligners in the presence or the absence of the open gingival embrasures or alteration. The retrospective analysis of the information regarding patients treated with clear aligners was conducted alone and based on digital models and clinical photographs. It was revealed that descriptive and inferential statistics could be used to compare pre- and post-treatment embrasure status using SPSS with chi-square analysis with a significance level of p < 0.05. The findings indicated that there was statistically significant association of clear aligner therapy with post-treatment open embrace status indicating that there were more prevalent after the treatment was done. The results of such cases make it hard to realize the need of attentive treatment plan, periodontal-based and instructed moving of the teeth in the event of aligner supporting framework use. The study yields evidence that is clinically relevant to the orthodontic literature and raises the issue of preventive interventions in order to minimize esthetic negative outcomes of clear aligner treatment.
