ASSESSMENT OF THE KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS DEMENTIA AMONG UNDERGRADUATE NURSING STUDENTS

Abstract
Aim. The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge and attitude toward dementia of undergraduate nursing students.
Methodology. A descriptive cross-sectional research study design was used. Study used a non-probability convenience sampling method. The study population was undergraduate nursing students and sample size was 171.
Results. The study was descriptive cross-sectional so descriptive statistics was applied, frequency distribution was calculated, data normality was checked. The study reported that participants with low knowledge were 75(43.9%), the participants with moderate knowledge were 53(31.0%) and the participants with high knowledge were 43(25.1%). The study participants with poor attitude were 67(39.2%), the participants with average attitude were 66(38.6%) and the participants with good attitude were 38(22.2%).
Conclusion. The study concluded that the majority of undergraduate nursing students had low knowledge and poor attitudes towards dementia.
