SENSITIVITY OF MANTRELS VS RIPASA IN FEMALES WITH RIGHT ILIAC FOSSA PAIN
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: The purpose of the research is to find out the sensitivity of MANTRELS vs RIPASA in females with right iliac fossa pain
Study Design: Prospective Observational Comparative Study
Study Duration: 06 months from August 2024-Janurary 2025
Study Place: Department of General Surgery, CMH Lahore
Methods: A prospective observational study included female patients presenting with right iliac fossa pain suggestive of acute appendicitis. Both MANTRELS and RIPASA scores were calculated, and management decisions were made independently. Histopathology confirmed appendicitis in operated patients. Sensitivity of both scoring systems was compared using standard formulas, with statistical analysis performed via SPSS v26, and a p<0.05 was considered significant.
Results: 241 female patients with right iliac fossa (RIF) pain (mean age 24.8 ± 8.6 years) were included. 156 (64.7%) underwent appendectomy, with histopathology confirming appendicitis in 142 (58.9%). RIPASA (≥7.5) correctly identified 129 cases, while MANTRELS (≥7) identified 104 cases, showing higher sensitivity for RIPASA (90.8% vs 73.2%, p < 0.001).
Conclusion: RIPASA is more sensitive and accurate than MANTRELS in diagnosing appendicitis in females with right iliac fossa pain.
