Abstract

Background: Aluminum phosphide intoxication is also a significant toxicological emergency in developing nations, which poses significant maternal and fetal risk when it is exposed in the course of pregnancy. However, the information in relation to the clinical features and the perinatal outcomes of the affected women is scarce.


Objective: To evaluate the clinical profile, maternal outcomes, and fetal outcomes among pregnant patients presenting with aluminum phosphide poisoning.


Methods: A cohort study was conducted on a group of pregnant women who had been established to be victims of aluminum phosphide poisoning. Demographic features, clinical presentation, laboratory findings, treatment procedures, maternal and fetal outcomes were recorded through a proforma. The data gathered was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.


Results: Pregnant women presented with severe systemic toxicity, including cardiovascular instability, metabolic derangements, and requirement for intensive supportive care. Maternal outcomes ranged from recovery with supportive treatment to critical complications requiring intensive care, while fetal outcomes included live birth, intrauterine fetal demise, and preterm delivery.


Conclusion: During pregnancy, aluminum phosphide intoxication is linked with high levels of maternal and fetal morbidity. The provision of multidisciplinary care, timely assistance, and management should be early identified to enhance fetal and maternal outcomes. Preventive measures and increasing publicity on pesticides toxicity continue to play a crucial role in minimizing cases of diseases
